CAR SOUND & PERFORMANCE's
2001 WILD WEST SHOOTOUT
presented by

CAR SOUND & PERFORMANCE will present the "Wild West Shootout" during the Power 92 car show and concert that will be held June 3 at the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Arizona

The top carsound competition vehicles in the world will converge to compete for $30,000* in awards. The competition format will be unlike any seen before and the participants will actively display their vehicle before spectators and be rewarded points based upon a crowd excitement factor.

This competition will be limited to 10 vehicles, which will compete head to head in two formats, Sound and Installation. If a run-off for the ten is needed it will be held Saturday June 2, at a location to be announced.

The entry fee for the event will be $3000 per entrant and all of the money will go directly to prize allocation for the ten vehicles.

Rob Hephner, editorial director for CAR SOUND & PERFORMANCE, states, "This is basically a put up, or shut up contest, not for the weak at heart and defiantly not for posers!"

Anyone wishing to receive further information regarding this event should contact either Rob Hephner at 480-325-8522 for contest rules and procedures, or John Moore at 602-795-7976 for sponsorship and exhibition opportunities.

Overall Governing Rules (added 4/16/01)

This contest is limited to vehicles that would commonly be regarded as "available by consumers." No prototype vehicles will be allowed. If any question arises as to the ability for a vehicle to compete, the entrant should contact Rob Hephner.

All entrants must have a $3000 retainer sent to Rob Hephner at 5846 East Julep Street, Mesa, AZ 85205 by no later than 12 midnight MST May 18, 2001.

All judges will score on their own scale and may score in any increment that they deem necessary.

All averaged scores will be average to the nearest tenth.

.05 will be rounded to .1

Once a score is placed, it is record and may not be changed.

Rob Hephner will determine the criteria for any tiebreaker.

Rob Hephner will determine the final result of any objection.

Runoff Description
In the event that more than ten (10) vehicles have posted the required $3000 retainer by May 18, 2001 a runoff competition will be held June 2, 2001 at a place and location to be announced no later than May 23, 2001.

The runoff will consist of a one-section installation judging and a quick sound quality judging.

Installation judging will consist of the intense judging of one category of each vehicle as determined by a spin of the installation wheel.

Sound Quality will consist of a single musical selection that will be revealed at the runoff.

Some Additional Notes
Any sponsor who fronts the money for entry of a vehicle will be named before and after that vehicle’s presentation.

There is no limit to the number of vehicles any manufacturer may sponsor.

Sound Quality (added 4/16/01)
There will be six (6) judges

Judges will use two (2) of the following songs to judge the ten vehicles.

1 TBA
2 TBA
3 TBA
4 TBA
5 TBA
6 TBA
7 TBA
8 TBA
9 TBA
10 TBA

The songs that each judge uses will be announced after all vehicles have been judged.

Judges will listen to the vehicles one at a time and in a single seated position. The judge will select one of the two normal front seating positions to listen to the vehicle, either the driver’s seat or the front passenger seat. Each judge will judge the vehicle with another person in the vehicle, the other person present will in no way aid the judging process in any way other than providing mass in the vehicle.

Judges will score each vehicle on a 1 to 20 point scale and will award the highest level of points to the system that most accurately reproduces a sound stage according to accepted criteria.

One (1) high score and one (1) low score will be discarded for each vehicle and the remaining score will be averaged to determine the order that the vehicle will be presented to the spectators.

Once the Sound Quality portion of the event is finalized all scores will be posted.

Installation and Presentation (added 4/16/01)
There will be six (6) judges (same for each section)

Vehicles will be seeded according to their placement in the Sound Quality portion of judging

The tenth place vehicle will go first and will be followed by the next placed vehicle, vehicles will continue to present all the way to the first place vehicle.

If a vehicle is not ready for judging when their time comes, they will be deducted 1 point for each place assignment they miss.

Vehicle will be allowed fifteen (15) minutes for setup and teardown (total time allowed.)

Installation
Each vehicles judging will begin with an unaided review of the vehicle by each of the six judges. For five (5) minutes the judges will look at the overall fit and finish of the vehicle and award a score form 1 to 10, as in the SQ portion the overall score will be derived by removing the high and low score and averaging the remaining scores.

This score will be posted before the presentation begins.

Presentation
Each vehicle will be allotted a 10-minute presentation in which its team must present the vehicle to a grandstand. The presentation will be judged on a 1-20 point scale. The presentation that will be awarded the highest score is one that conveys the design of the vehicle to the crowd as well as the industry of carsound itself and will convince the audience that no matter how much the overall vehicle costs it is worth every penny.

There are no rules on how or by whom a vehicle must be presented other than it may not cause damage to the presentation area or surrounding areas, and Rob Hephner must in deem the attire of the person or persons presenting appropriate.

The only equipment that will be provided is a PA system, any other equipment in the Audio Visual realm is allowed but must be provided by the competition team and must be setup and tore-down within the allotted 15-minute window. Any violation of the 15-minute window will result in a one-point deduction for each one (1) minute overage.
