| The GT1241D is a 12-inch DVC woofer that was delivered for testing in a sealed enclosure of about 1 cubic foot. Features include an injection-molded cone, a rubber surround, dual 4-ohm voice coils, double-stacked magnets, and a vented pole piece. Subjective The GT1241D's tonal accuracy is quite good. No one note sticks out to a large degree on our favorite string bass passages, but upper bass transients are a little soft. Subbass performance was also good. It seems to compress a bit at high levels, but it does so gracefully. The GT1241D really comes into its element on boom and rap tracks. Output in the 50 Hz range is substantial and was a bit of a surprise. After auditioning several audiophile tracks, I wasn't expecting quite the gut-shaking response that the GT1241D delivered. Overall, this seems to be a nice sub; a boomer's delight with minimal enclosure requirements. Objective With the coils paralleled, impedance measurements for this unit show a maximum of 14 ohms at 52 Hz and a minimum of 2.5 ohms @ 20 Hz. Average impedance measured 5.2 ohms. Out-of-car measurements show a smooth rise in response below 100 Hz, followed by a 12 dB-per-octave roll-off below system resonance. In-car measurements show a 1-watt sensitivity of 97 dB at 10 Hz and smooth overall response. The 300 watt trace (top) shows a maximum SPL of 121 dB at 50 Hz and about 4.5 dB of power compression. |
