| The E1604 is a 4-channel amp with a 4-ohm power rating of 40 watts x 4. Features include gold-plated connections, switchable high- or low-pass filters with variable cutoff frequency, variable phase adjustment, line-level outputs, and bass boost. Performance The E1604 performed quite well during our testing session. Its response is up by about 2 dB in the low end even with the bass boost set at minimum, but otherwise it seems relatively quirk-free. The RMS power ratings of 40 watts x 4 @ 4 ohms and 80 watts x 4 @ 2 ohms are close enough to be called real, but the Dynamic numbers are a little optimistic. We tested for peak dynamic power under ideal conditions, we saw a max of about 300 watts x 2, and dynamic power tests do give a good indication of how the amp will perform on musical transients. Overall, the E1604 is an impressive package thats worthy of consideration if you have four hungry speakers to feed. Installation The E1604 shouldnt pose any major installation problems, although it may be a bit large for under-seat mounting in some applications. Connections & Adjustments Connections to the E1604 consist of RCA inputs, RCA line outputs, and 8-gauge captive-style terminal blocks for all power and ground connections. All adjustments on the E1604 control a pair of channels and include crossover mode select, crossover cutoff frequency adjustment, 0- to 180-degree phase adjustment, input sensitivity, and bass boost. Manual The manual for the E1604 covers all of the amps in the Encore line-up, but seems reasonably comprehensive. System diagrams are large and easy to read and theres minimal questionable information. |
