JBL Mobile Systems has announced that it will be a sponsor of the 18th Annual Miss Hawaiian Tropic" United States Pageant, Sept. 26-30, as well as the presenting sponsor of the pageant's first-ever live webcast. The events preceding and including the final pageant on Sept. 30 at the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Las Vegas can be viewed in real time on the Hawaiian Tropic web site, www.htropic.com. A 15-20 second commercial highlighting JBL's products and its role as the webcast's sponsor will air at the beginning and end of each event, as well as several times throughout. In addition, a link to the JBL web site, www.jbl.com, will be prominently displayed during the webcast. ProWebCast is cordinating the webcast, and it will promoted through the MSN and Yahoo! news web sites."JBL is pleased to sponsor the first-ever live webcast of their pageant," says Christopher M. Dragon, director of brand marketing, JBL Mobile. "This is an innovative way to reach millions and let them be part of the week's events. We have successfully worked with Hawaiian Tropic at Spring Break events and national tours for several years, and taking the relationship online enables the JBL brand to further tap into the youth market and reach potential consumers."
In addition to sponsoring the webcast and pageant, JBL's mobile team will be at the events to showcase the brand's quality car audio systems. JBL's Project Camry Solara and Dodge Ram will be displayed throughout the week so consumers can "test drive" the cars' sound systems. Also, JBL company banners will be prominently displayed around the pool area and in the ballroom for the final competition.
The webcast of the pageant begins Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 2:45 to 6 p.m. PDT with the poolside 2002 calendar shoot. It will feature 110 contestants, the most ever in a Hawaiian Tropic photo shoot. Next is the Aloha Party and Luau at Diamond Head Falls on Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. PDT.
The official welcome dinner and presentation of the contestants in evening wear is Thursday, Sept. 28, from 7 to 10 p.m. PDT. This event will be held in the Tiffany Theatre, which is fully equipped with a JBL sound system.
The preliminary swimsuit competition is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. PDT on Friday, Sept. 29, and the Tropical Luau and main dinner is from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. PDT. Both events will be held poolside at the hotel. The final competition will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. PDT on Saturday, Sept. 30 in the Tiffany Theatre. All of the events will be webcast live, enabling viewers at home to see the contestants and vote online for their favorite one. At the conclusion of each day, a three to five minute segment of highlights will be cut and archived on the Hawaiian Tropic web site for six months. A brief commercial noting JBL's sponsorship will be featured in these segments as well.
The pageant will select four contestants to represent the United States in the 18th Annual Miss Hawaiian Tropic International pageant in April 2001. Contestants will be awarded a variety of prizes totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars, including JBL audio products.
Sterling Productions, in association with Bennett Productions Inc., will also film the pageant for inclusion in an upcoming one-hour television special that will air nationally in Spring 2001.
