MTX Thunderforce Competitors Dominate NOPI Nationals
Atlanta Motor Speedway, this weekend, came alive. Not with the roar of 750 horsepower stock car engines, but with the thunder of thousands of dB’s worth of dB Drag SPL Competition. At the center of it all were three competitors representing MTX Audio.

Ben Sams, Steve Sorrentino, and Jimmy Zimmerman have all excelled this year using MTX Audio’s 4000-watt, 15-inch mammoth subwoofer, the RFL152, and this weekend was no exception. All three MTX Thunderforce competitors won their class in convincing fashion.

Sams, of Knoxville, TN, brought his modified ’91 Dodge Caravan equipped with 4 RFL152 subwoofers driven by 16 MTX Thunder81000D amplifiers, and took home a huge win in Extreme 3-4 with an Earth-shaking 171.7.

"The subs were running great coming off last week’s N.S.P.L. event in Charlotte," says Sams. "I couldn’t be happier or more proud of a team. Steve and Jimmy and I really came together this weekend to show the world what MTX S.P.L. competition is all about."

Jimmy Zimmerman of Rocky Mount, NC overcame some adversity winning the Extreme 1-2 class (two MTX RFL152 subwoofers run with eight MTX 81000D Adaptive Class D amplifiers) with a final score of 170.7 after his vehicle was broken into the night before the event.

"It looked like somebody had tried to get at the amplifiers and was interrupted mid-rip," says Zimmerman. "We took some time the morning of the show to re-wire the amps, and got back to competing. Unfortunately, we don’t really know what the vehicle could have done today because the creeps who broke in left the wires touching all night which drained my batteries."

Johnston, RI’s Steve Sorrentino kept up his winning ways driving his six MTX RFL152 subwoofers with 24 MTX 81000D amps to scores of 171.8 and 171.7 in his first two runs through the lanes before clinching the Extreme 5-8 championship with a blistering 171.2.

Sorrentino also proved, once and for all, that less can definitely be more. After blowing one of his six RFL152 subwoofers early on, his five remaining subwoofers still had enough juice in the finish just one tenth of a dB behind the loudest vehicle of the event.

Next up for the team is the dB Drag World Finals at the Nashville Convention Center in Nashville, TN October 6th.
