KICKER Golden at the Summer X Games
Whether it was a Lookback Hart Attack, Tail Whip Can-Can, Stalefish Front to Blind, or Double Nac Indian, one thing’s for sure – KICKER was grabbin’ Philly’s big air at the 2001 Summer X Games!

KICKER’s presence at this edition of the X Games was bigger than ever before as thousands of fans converged on PA for some "brotherly love!" Both ESPN and ABC televised every day from the week-long X Games as KICKER-sponsored Moto X competitors Travis Pastrana, Tommy "Tomcat" Clowers, and "Cowboy" Kenny Bartram each captured gold medals in a KICKER/motocross sweep.

Pastrana won this third straight Freestyle event with several sick runs, and Clowers had some serious ups on the Step Up event, clearing 33 feet with ease. Bartram took gold in the Big Air event with a wicked Sterilizer jump.

KICKER riders "Mad" Mike Jones, Mike Metzger, and Carey Hart also competed at the Games, with Hart ending up in the hospital with multiple broken bones after he attempted a backflip in the Big Air event.

Darin Shapiro, Park Bonifay, and Shane Bonifay represented KICKER in Wakeboarding, and Biker Sherlock kept KICKER flat on the pavement in the Street Luge competition.

On the midway outside the stadium, crankin’ KICKER audio systems boomed from both the Winterfresh chewing gum (winterfresh.com) and SPY Optic (spyeyes.com) semi-trailers. Look for KICKER, SPY, and Winterfresh at the Gravity Games September 1, as well as the Winter X Games in February.

Go to expn.com to see who really bailed (ask Carey Hart) or who kissed gold. Regardless, most were getting their swerve on by listening to obnoxious KICKER systems! Look for many of the same extreme athletes beginning September 30 as NBC televises the Gravity Games (gravitygames.com) from Providence, RI.

The seventh annual X Games from Philadelphia was the most-watched X Games ever. ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC Sports combined to televise 20.5 original hours of action from the Games, including afternoon, prime-time and late-night programming.

In an X Games record, the 2001 event attracted an average audience of 465,905 (all dayparts, ESPN, ESPN2, ABC Sports average), an increase of 48% from last year, including a 60% increase (179,972 from 112,319) for all people age 12-24.

X Games on-site attendance showed a 19% increase in daily spectator average at the main X Games venue (35,367 in 2001) and a 17% increase for overall attendance as 234,950 total fans saw the weeklong X Games live this year.
