Dozens of mobile electronics retailers from across Northern California converged on Pleasanton this past weekend for the first of MERA's fall 2001 Mobile Education Tour events. Sponsored in part by Sirius Satellite Radio and Kenwood USA, this day-long event provided a comprehensive mix of business and technology training for the owners, managers and sales staff of independent mobile electronics specialists, along with a special series of fabrication courses for 12-volt installers. The highlight of the conference was cutting-edge information about satellite radio, with high-impact presentations for both owners and installers by Sirius Satellite Radio. In addition, a demo vehicle was on site broadcasting Sirius' live signal. To further enhance the education for this new technology, Alpine and XM teamed up to present an owner's seminar outlining XM's satellite radio program.
The owner's forum topics that proved to be most popular included information on how to sell aftermarket and performance parts, vehicle interior acoustics and system design, and OEM integration. Other valuable sessions covered cash management and inventory control, small business building techniques, employee recruitment and retention, and Kenwood navigation and mobile video. Additionally, installers were able to participate in sessions that demonstrated various advanced fabrication techniques.
Other locations for MERA's 2001 Mobile Education Tour will include Hartford, CT, Sept. 16; Lisle/Naperville, IL, Sept. 23; and Orlando, FL, Oct. 28. For more information or to register, log on to the website below.
