Toyo Tires is the official tire of the 7th annual Indy Truck Bash and Import Drags, set for August 18-20, 2000 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Toyo will provide a cash award and a set of Toyo Proxes performance tires to the winner of the Best Dressed on Toyos" contest. The contest, which is judged by The Indy Truck Bash and Import Drags, is open to all makes, models and years of 2WD trucks and sport compact cars. However, the overall mix has changed in the past two years, with a noticeable increase in the number of import and sport compact vehicles attending, according to Doc Riley of The Promotion Company/Special Events, which stages the event in conjunction with Latest Craze, an Indianapolis-area car and truck club."If our event is any benchmark, the sport compact scene is definitely catching on in this part of the country," Riley says. "Last year, about 45 percent of the 1,3378 vehicles registered for the show were sport compact and import cars, mirroring the explosive growth of the movement on the East and West Coasts."
"The Indy Truck Bash is the biggest show of its kind in the Midwest," says Earl Knoper, senior vice president of marketing, Toyo Tires (USA). "Since the core of the sport compact and mini-truck scene is on the West Coast, we’re pleased to find this new audience."
Riley says the drag racing portion of the weekend’s events will operate using National Import Racers Association (NIRA) rules, classes and payouts, though there will not be any pro classes. Additional attractions at the event will include a Show-n-Shine competition, hydraulics and burnout contests, on-grounds cruising and a Performance Marketplace.
