XM Satellite Radio Signs Deal With MTV Networks to Create MTV and VH1 Branded Channels on XM
XM Satellite Radio announced a programming agreement with MTV Networks, a division of Viacom Inc., to create two 24-hour XM channels under the MTV and VH1 brand names. The MTV and VH1 channels will feature the best of their unique programming from music, news and entertainment reports including interviews from top artists to features from their popular shows. In addition, MTV Networks will provide promotional opportunities for XM on its cable networks. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"I was around in the early days of cable when people first said, 'I want my MTV!' Now, they will demand their MTV and VH1 on XM Radio," says XM CEO and president Hugh Panero. "MTV and VH1 are the clear leaders reaching their target markets with a variety of multi-media products and we are simply thrilled to have entered into this relationship with MTV Networks which will bolster our already stellar programming lineup."

"For MTV Networks, this agreement with XM Satellite Radio is a natural step in our ongoing effort to offer our audience new ways to access our brands across multiple platforms," says Ann Sarnoff, chief operating officer and executive vice president of VH1.

"We have the leading music brands on television and online and we are excited to break into the satellite radio arena with XM and at the same time create a new revenue stream for our valuable content. They truly value the power of strong brands and we are delighted to be part of their service," says Donald Silvey, senior vice president Program Enterprises and Business Development of MTV.
