This giveaway will coincide with the world's first ever surround sound car audio competitions, which will take place at USAC events across the country starting sometime later this summer. The disc will be given to all SQ competitors at sanctioned USAC events.

Both the giveaway and the new competition format are part of USAC's new agreement with the entertainment technology company DTS and AUTOMEDIA's sister publication, CAR SOUND & PERFORMANCE. This agreement is designed to introduce 5.1 surround sound music to the car audio market.

"5.1 Surround Sound will definitely lift the bar of sound quality," states USAC president Ralph Randall. "We are extremely excited to be the first to offer this new software to our competitors."

Once they begin Randall said the new surround sound competitions will occur throughout the remainder of the 2001 season, including the USAC World Finals in Kansas City in November.

With 5.1 surround sound, listeners are able to hear cleaner, clearer music because the signal is separated into five distinct channels across the full band-width (left, right, center, back left and back right), plus a sixth channel for bass.
