Falken Tire Major Sponsor Pikes Peak "Race to the Clouds International Hill Climb
Falken Tire announced their designation as an official sponsor of the 2001 World Famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Considered by many to be one of the top five must-see races in the world, Pikes Peak is a legend among racers and fans alike and is commonly referred to as the Race to the Clouds.

A major producer of high and ultra high performance tires, Falken sponsors motorsports events worldwide. Richard Smallwood, vice president Sales & Marketing for Falken Tire says, "We are involved in many different forms of motorsports, as the tire technology developed as a result of our involvement helps us make a better tire for high performance street applications. Pikes Peak is certainly one of the most sought-after motorsports venues. We’re pleased to be a part of this exciting event."

The first Pikes Peak race took place in 1916 as a promotion for the new Pikes Peak Highway. This is the second-oldest auto race in the U.S. Only the Indianapolis 500 is older. Many of the world's most famous race car drivers, including Bobby Unser, Al Unser and Al Unser Jr., Mario Andretti, Parnelli Jones, Johnny Mauro, Rick Mears, Roger Mears, Elliott Forbes-Robinson, Rod Millen, Nobuhiro Tajima, Ari Vatanen, Walter Rohrl, Michele Mouton and John Buffum, have competed in this race over the years. The course is 12.42 miles long and contains 156 corners. It is a gravel course and many of the corners are hairpin turns. There are cliffs of 1,500 feet or more and no guardrails. The course begins at an elevation of 9,200 feet and finishes at the top of 14,110-foot Pikes Peak near Colorado Springs, Colo. This year's race will be held on June 30th. It is an internationally famous event and televised (tape delay by ESPN) in 57 countries.
