XM Satellite Radio Inc., has announced sales and marketing agreements with regional retail leaders Ultimate, Al and Ed's, CarToys, Sound Advice, and Mobile-One, as well as one of the nation's leading catalog and on-line retail outlets, Crutchfield. Previously, America's largest consumer electronic retailers Circuit City and Best Buy, as well as regional chains Good Guys and Tweeter, announced that they would sell and promote XM service and products from leading manufacturers. With today's announcements, XM has solidified its distribution foundation with the leading electronics retailers in their respective markets. "These leading car audio retailers will make XM Radio readily available throughout the country," states Daniel Murphy, XM's vice president of Retail Marketing and Distribution. "Our goal is to make XM highly visible and easily accessible to the 200 million registered vehicle owners in the United States," he adds. The retailers plan to sell and market XM-Ready radios from leading consumer electronics manufacturers and XM service throughout their stores beginning with launch of XM programming in early 2001. XM will have a variety of point-of-purchase displays prominently positioned in each store. XM-Ready radios will be manufactured and distributed to retailers by industry leaders such as Sony, Alpine, Pioneer Electronics Corporation and Sharp Corporation.
