CAR SOUND AND PERFORMANCE magazine has announced that it has entered into an ambitious marketing initiative with leading entertainment technology company, DTS to introduce 5.1 surround sound music to the car audio market. In order to introduce the enriched experience of surround sound in the car to mobile electronics enthusiasts, DTS will be sponsoring the world's first surround sound in-car competitions among members of USAC, the leading automotive sound sanctioning body. In cooperation with CAR SOUND AND PERFORMANCE magazine and USAC, DTS is scheduled to sponsor:
5.1 Music custom-installer contests at USAC competitions; 5.1 Music set-up/test discs for USAC members; a new 5.1 Music online user forum at www.carsound.com; an eight-page tutorial on in-car installation of 5.1 sound systems.
"Trends in car audio have all traditionally begun at the grass-roots level among those hard-core enthusiasts who compete with their car audio systems at public events much like race car drivers compete at high speeds. Surround sound offers a tremendously expanded experience in the automotive environment and we believe these contests will help expose thousands of potential customers to the ways DTS can improve their life behind the wheel," says Rob Hephner, editorial director of CAR SOUND AND PERFORMANCE.
"DTS was founded on the premise that master quality sound is an integral part of the entertainment experience," adds David DelGrosso, Marketing VP for DTS Entertainment. "We have always been committed to offering technology that delivers exceptional quality and extraordinary value for motion pictures, both in the theaters and the home. We will now expand that commitment into the car audio market, as we team with CAR SOUND AND PERFORMANCE and USAC to introduce the numerous benefits of 5.1 Music to these amazing installers."
New 5.1-oriented installer materials and actual event participation, will gear up in July and run through the remainder of this year, including the USAC Nationals in Kansas City, in November.
