Wild West Shootout Recap
The lines were drawn and the participants lined up for the first ever Wild West Shootout. While not all that were expected showed, this was nothing new in the desert, which for centuries has defined the spirit and legends of the Wild West. As the sun rose on the Peoria Sports Complex, the competitors pulled there vehicles into place and began what would be one of the most interactive car audio competitions ever held. The victor would be determined not only by who could stand the heat, but the tests of twelve judges as well. As we have described here before, the judging went as planned and over 5000 people were exposed to the highest quality of installation and presentation that our industry has to offer. All of the participants were gracious and offered listening sessions as well as private tours of theirs vehicle to the spectators.

Once the SQ portion was completed, the competitors were seeded for the presentation section and the tension for a good presentation mounted. First would be Phil Petracca who was recognized by the competitors and judges as the competitor that would be most likely to be dragging something in the sand. While Phil was considered an underdog amateur to the other manufacturer-sponsored vehicles, he certainly did not play or perform like one. Giving up very little ground in any area, Phil’s vehicle is one high level install. Second would be Steve Brown and his CES Best of Show-award-winning BMW that's tearing up the competition scene, stopping every female on earth, and the envy of every installer! Third would be Will Adcock, with the original Reaper, somewhat of a pleasant surprise and a great crowd-pleaser. The Reaper stood guard over the vehicle all day and looked quite at home in the desert. Fourth, and last, would be Gary Biggs whose roaring engine start would not only get the attention of the crowd, but made one of the shows smallest attendees jump about three feet in the air (maybe next year Gary will get him.)

With the presentations done, the scores were posted and the Inaugural winners are as follows;

Gary Biggs 43.2

Wilson Adcock 41.1

Steve Brown 37.8

Phil Petracca 33.5

Gary Biggs received what will become the revolving award, which is a six-shooter with a sheriff’s badge. Look for the coverage of this event in the upcoming issue of CAR SOUND AND PERFORMANCE.
