JBL Full Throttle Dealer Takes First Place at USAC Event With Car Featuring GTi Subwoofer System
JBL Mobile Systems has announced that JBL Full Throttle dealer Pirate Radio placed first in a triple point USAC event held this weekend at the Nassau Coliseum in New York. Wendy and Rob Lewis, owners of Pirate Radio in Manchester, Conn., raced to first place in the Pro 601 and Up Class with a system that features three JBL GTi subwoofers, the brand’s much-anticipated subwoofers that were introduced this year. Cranking an SPL of 144 dB, the Lewises’ system also features JBL Power amplifiers and Infinity Kappa Perfect speakers. This is the Lewises’ second first place win with the JBL GTi system in two weeks. They also placed first at Action Electronics’ double point USAC event in Newington, Conn., on May 20.

This weekend’s USAC event was held in conjunction with the DriverFX.com Sport Compact Car Expo, June 2 and 3 at the Nassau Coliseum. More than 20,000 people attended the two-day event, which drew competitors in several categories and exhibits from aftermarket audio and performance manufacturers, including JBL.

"The GTi subwoofers are perfect for competition level systems, and Rob’s installation embodies the heart of the GTi design: they have very high SPL output but also incredibly low distortion and exceptional sound quality," says Christopher M. Dragon, director of Brand Marketing, JBL Mobile Systems. "JBL congratulates Rob and Wendy and Pirate Radio on their victory, and we are happy to see a Full Throttle dealer create a winning system based on the new GTi subs."

The Lewises competed using Wendy’s 1987 Mustang GT. Rob Lewis built the system, which features three JBL W12GTi 12-inch subwoofers in the trunk. The subs are placed in custom-made fiberglass enclosures that match the car’s metallic purple exterior paint. Two of the subs are installed traditionally with the third inverted to showcase the GTi’s extraordinary design. Three JBL BP1200.1 amplifiers drive the GTi subs, and the system also features two Infinity Kappa Perfect 6-1/2-inch separates that are driven by two JBL P80.4 amplifiers.
