WWW.BOOMERBAY.COM DEBUTS
Boomer McLoud, the nation’s largest independent car audio retailer, recently opened www.boomerbay.com, a new Web site for selling discontinued and previously owned car audio and electronics merchandise.

"Boomerbay.com creates a win-win situation," explains Russ Weldon, president of Boomer McLoud. "Consumers get the benefit of great bargains on excellent, used or closeout merchandise that is backed by a warranty. Retailers get the opportunity to move used or discontinued items and interact with new customers. Everybody benefits."

Boomerbay charges no commission on merchandise sold through the Web site. Instead, participating retailers pay a one-time set-up fee, a small annual fee, and a very small charge for each item they post on the site. All products sold through boomerbay.com carry a 15-day limited warranty covering product defects and retailers are available to offer technical advice.

Boomerbay.com works a little differently than other e-commerce sites. Consumers who shop at Boomerbay.com submit their orders online like other sites. The big difference is that each customer is called by the retailer listing the product so that the customer can ask questions related to installation, specs, or other technical issues. They also can decide on what is the best way to ship the product and what is the most convenient way for them to pay for it.

"The site actually combines the best elements of e-commerce and the traditional brick-and-mortar stores," offers Weldon. "Customers get the ease of on-line shopping combined with the technical support of qualified installers. One of our goals is to help retailers establish relationships with new customers and support retail car audio specialists."

Until recently, only Boomer McLoud retailers could list merchandise on the site. Now retailers nationwide and manufacturers can join. Weldon said that increasing the amount of merchandise available will make the site more valuable to consumers and increase traffic.

Boomerbay.com has already seen a good deal of traffic despite minimal advertising and promotional support. An advertising effort is now underway that will make more people aware of the site.

"Boomerbay, com has done very well without advertising support," notes Weldon. "Now that we’re promoting it, we should see the numbers really take off. We wanted to test it completely before launching nationally."
