Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) has been named vice-chairman of the House Policy Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Telecommunications, and Information Technology. This new assignment will allow Issa to continue technology policy goals and initiatives undertaken by the House majority.

"I am pleased that I have the opportunity to introduce a lifetime of experience as an electronics industry entrepreneur and hi-tech leader into the legislation process. The Vice-Chairmanship will allow me to work effectively to break down barriers to innovation and influence technology policy in the 107th Congress," Issa states.

The Policy Committee is the House majority's principal forum for discussion of specific legislative initiatives, for the enunciation of official Republican priorities on issues, and for the resolution of inter-jurisdictional policy disputes within the Conference.

The Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Telecommunications, and Information Technology handles: biomedical research, development, and technology; telecommunications, the Internet, and information technology; intellectual property; astronautical research and development; scientific research and development, and the activities of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the National Science Foundation; activities f the Federal Communications Commission; activities of the Food and Drug Administration; activities of the Federal Trade Commission.

In addition to Issa's role as vice-chairman of the subcommittee, Issa serves as a regional representative of the Policy Committee representing California. He also is a member of the Subcommittee on Environment, Resources, and Agriculture, as well as the Subcommittee on Retirement Security, Capital Markets, and Tax Policy.
