The front-loading DVD-ME1 is one of the smallest car DVD players made, measuring 6.7 inches wide, 2.9 inches high, and 8.5 inches deep. This small size allows it to be tucked away under seats, in consoles, or any other of the small nooks and crannies that would exclude larger units. To keep the movie from being interrupted by mistracking caused by bumps in the road, the DVD transport is internally suspended with springs and a sophisticated damping system. There is also a 10-second buffer memory to outlast the longest jolt.

The player is operated using a full-function infrared remote control, which is included, and on-screen video displays so it can operate much like a home DVD player. There are fast forward and reverse search at 2, 4, 6, and 8 times normal speed; 2 and 4 power zoom; optional angles; chapter/title play an repeat; and much more.

This is a highly capable DVD player that works with current 4:3 aspect ratio screens and the forth-coming 16:9 screens. It can also play high-definition MPEG2 video and is compatible with NTSC and PAL displays.

As an MP3 audio player one CD-R can be loaded with as much music as a10 disc changer, but every song can be recorded from a different CD, off a service like Napster, or from a streaming audio Internet radio station. The on-screen displays individual file folders on the MP3 CD and provides an 8-letter ID tag for each track.

The Blaupunkt DVD-ME1 is supplied with a remote infrared eye mounted on an 18-foot cable plus 18-foot long RCA audio and video cables. A 110VAC/12VDC power supply is included for use outside the vehicle when camping or at a vacation home.

The Blaupunkt DVD-ME1 will be available in April with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $449.95.
