The 2001 autosound season commences with the 15th Annual Spring Break Nationals, held March 23-25, 2001, at Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., and JBL and Infinity Mobile Systems are starting off on the right foot there. Poised to set a new tone for the coming year and with more than 3,200 square feet of booth space between them, the brands are pulling out all the stops at the season’s first event. JBL’s Toyota Camry Solara, featuring the new GTi series subwoofers, Infinity’s Mitsubishi Eclipse, which features the new Kappa series components and the brands‚ tour trailers are sure to make a big splash at the beach. In addition, the star of the Trek Trials team, Anthony "Pogi" Tortorice, will perform daredevil bike stunts three times a day in front of the convention center on JBL’s behalf. Hawaiian Tropic, which, like Trek, is sponsored by JBL, will also be on hand to lend support. JBL and Infinity Mobile will be in booths #EP200 and #EP300 at the show. "The Spring Break Nationals is the first event, and one of the largest of the season, so it is important to make a lasting impression on attendees," says Christopher M. Dragon, director of brand marketing of JBL and Infinity Mobile. "Between the new products, the new show cars and Pogi and Hawaiian Tropic working the crowds, it is going to be non-stop action on our end of Ocean Center. We are gearing up for a phenomenal tour season for both the JBL and Infinity brands, and Spring Break Nationals will show consumers and our retailers the aggressive pace and fun tone we are setting for the year."
The brands are also taking it one step beyond the show. After listening to JBL products, consumers can then find their local retailer through the mobile dealer locator on-site at Ocean Center. Providing information on dealers nationwide, a Compaq computer station will be set up in the JBL booth and will travel on the JBL tour throughout the season. Consumers simply enter their zip code to find the dealer closest to them.
"At all events, but especially these national ones, it is vital that consumers be able to find the JBL or Infinity retailer in their city," adds Dragon. "With the addition of the computer station, we are making our products easily accessible to the consumer while helping drive traffic to our dealers."
JBL’s high quality and high output subwoofers, the GTi series, will be showcased in the redesigned Toyota Camry Solara. The Solara is accompanied on the tour by the JBL brand trailer and the JBL-outfitted Dodge Ram that pulls it. The 30-foot JBL trailer also houses a Trek mountain bike display, which showcases the new Fuel 80 and VRX 400 bikes. A Toyota Tundra shows off the brand’s products and will go to dealer events nationwide.
Cranking up its events presence this year, Infinity will debut its new 30-foot trailer and Dodge Ram that pulls it at the Spring Break Nationals. Outfitted with two separate sound systems, the Dodge cab has 13 Kappa Perfect 10-inch woofers and the truck bed features eight Kappa Perfect 12-inch woofers. The Infinity trailer, which also provides sound on the road, houses a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse that has performance upgrades in addition to its autosound enhancements. The Eclipse has a Kappa Perfect 6.1 component system in addition to Perfect subs. A Dodge Dakota also showcases the brand’s products and will go to dealer events nationwide.
In addition to JBL and Infinity‚s audio presence, Pogi will be on hand to help entertain the crowds, where the Hawaiian Tropic girls will also lend the brand support. Pogi was a popular component to last year’s JBL mobile tour, and he is sure to be a crowd pleaser again this year. From jumping onto a pair of sawhorses and doing a 360 degree turn off them to leaping from platform to platform on one wheel, Pogi knows how to keep the audience on edge while executing his stunts.
