Visitors surfing to Directed Electronics' Web site (http://www.directed.com) will now see a flashing link on Directed's home page urging them to "Design Your Own Security System." Visitors enter their zip code and answer a series of questions probing their needs for security accessories. Finally, they enter their name and contact information, and are presented with their security "wish list" of either a Viper, Python, or Sidewinder security system plus accessories. This wish list is automatically faxed or e-mailed to their nearest authorized DEI retailer, with a cover letter advising the retailer to contact the consumer immediately, and to offer them an attractive special Internet price for their professionally-installed new system.
Response to the new feature has been immediate and dramatic. According to Jim Jardin, DEI's marketing and sales support manager, "Consumers surfing our Web site found the Direct-Net application almost from the moment it went live, and in the first two weeks literally hundreds of leads have gone out. Our task now is to make our dealers aware of this free service, and of the urgency to get back to the consumer ASAP.
"Other Internet firms offer a similar service to retailers," adds Jardin, "but charge them a referral fee plus a percentage of the total sale. DEI is pleased to offer these hot leads absolutely free to our authorized retailers. It's a win-win situation."
