ATX Technologies to Respond to Emergency Signals from Mercedes-Benz Seat Belt Emergency Tensioning Retractors
ATX Technologies will monitor automatic activation of seat belt emergency tensioning retractors (ETRs) in most model year 2000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles, which include Tele Aid telematics systems as standard equipment. The car maker is the first to implement an in-vehicle automatic collision notification (ACN) system for both ETRs and air bags.

ETRs are designed to remove slack from seat belts so that they fit snuggly against the body, helping reduce forward movement as much as possible during certain front and rear impacts. The ETR deployment and notification was added to the Tele Aid system as a further precaution to expand the detection of collisions to some that do not activate a car's air bag.

When an ETR or air bag is activated, the Tele Aid in-vehicle system sends an emergency alert signal to one of ATX's redundant Tele Aid Response Centers in either Dallas or San Antonio. Response specialists relay the message, along with the vehicle's location, to the proper authorities.

For more information, call ATX at 800-511-5891.
