Adam Saruwatari to Come On Board CAR SOUND AND PERFORMANCE Columnist Staff
With a rich family racing heritage under his belt, Adam Saruwatari of A&L Racing will be joining the CAR SOUND AND PERFORMANCE columnist writer team. Saruwatari brings with him keen hands-on experience in the speed/performance world, making him a perfect fit for the publication bringing together the excitement of mobile electronics and the raw edged appeal of vehicle performance.

Racing had always been a strong presence in the Saruwatari family. Leroy, Adam's father, was involved in racing sand rails before Adam was born. Adam has always had a need for speed whether it was snow skiing, water skiing, roller blading, or biking. The idea of A & L Racing was conceptualized when Adam, Leroy, and Lorene were heavily involved with 1/10 scale RC car racing. Leroy was instrumental in teaching Adam many of the driving skills that he currently posses.

A 1991 Camaro was the first dream car for Saruwatari. Back then, it seemed that every kid's dream was a big muscle car; however, that first dream was short lived. After receiving the privilege of driving his uncle's new Acura NSX to his winter formal, Saruwatari found his next dream car. That was the beginning of his continuing dream and love affair with import high performance vehicles.

Saruwatari attended Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo, and majored in Mechanical Engineering. In his third year, he decided to return to the farm, and changed his major to Ag Business. After determining that the practical experience he had was adequate for his goals, he left school to earn money in order to pursue his dream car. A used 300 ZX Twin Turbo was a temporary substitute on his way to his NSX. Never settling for leaving a car in stock condition, he proceeded to upgrade his 300 ZX. Always thinking and on the lookout for opportunities, Saruwatari decided that he would find a business of his own, so he could write-off some of the expenses of his 300 ZX. After exploring his avenues of opportunity, A & L Racing was born.

Saruwatari came across an ad in Sport Compact Car magazine for 'Battle of the Imports.' Always interested in speed, he was immediately off and running for the Palmdale track. Once there, a new dream was born: to race. That was the day that the idea of the" 7" was truly conceived. The birth of the Mazda RX-7 was the perfect combination formula: speed and total business write-off - what more could anyone ask for? Six months later, Saruwatari capped his prior dream by getting his black NSX.

"We are really exited to have Adam join our team," says CAR SOUND AND PERFORMANCE editorial director Rob Hephner. "He brings the same level of expertise as our other columnists in a whole new category. With dedication to his sport, and excitement about all vehicles, Adam is a true enthusiast and competitor!"
