GOTTA HAVE IT
XM’s latest product offering, XM Direct, allows you to receive XM Satellite Radio broadcasts in any car that’s equipped to receive any kind of Satellite radio, whether the vehicle is equipped with an OEM or Aftermarket audio system.
XM Direct is a two-part system that’s made up of a universal tuner box and a smart digital adapter. The adapter is designed to work with a specific aftermarket head unit or a particular automobile. For instance, the XM Direct tuner box is connected to a Sony car stereo with a smart digital adapter designed for Sony systems. If you have a BMW automobile with an in-dash Sirius satellite radio, you can connect the XM Direct tuner to your radio with a smart digital adapter for BMW. The adapter converts the BMW stereo to an XM system.
The direct connection to your car stereo offers you superior sound for enjoying XM’s music choices, live concerts, sporting events, and other exclusive programs, the company reports.
The XM Direct tuner box installs quickly and invisibly in any vehicle. Its compact size allows it to be located out of sight behind a dashboard or other convenient location, and its integral mounting brackets enable it to be secured using fasteners. The tuner box includes an antenna input, plus all the necessary connections to link any of the smart digital adapters.
The Universal Tuner Box comes with an XM Radio antenna plus a 23-foot micro-coax cable, which is long enough for installation in SUVs and trucks and can be routed around window molding and through access holes for a fully professional installation. The antenna’s compact profile and magnetic mounting base enable it to be mounted effortlessly on a vehicle.
You can purchase the XM Direct tuner box and smart digital adapter bundled together at retail stores for $99. XM Direct for auto brands is available through automobile dealerships for $299 plus installation.
