Sirius Plug-and-Play units aren’t just for big box retailers anymore. Thanks to Blaupunkt, now you can get a plug-and-play at your local specialty shop. The company’s America SR04 offers plug-and-play technology and reception of Sirius’ 120 digital quality channels — from a higher end brand — at a similar price to the units that you can buy at Circuit City and Best Buy.

The Blaupunkt America SR04 comes with a plug and play tuner, an in car plug and play cradle, DC power supply, wireless remote control, and a satellite radio antenna. The unit can be hardwired to a car stereo receiver with auxiliary inputs, or it can broadcast Sirius content to any FM tuner, with its built in 12-channel wireless FM modulator. An optional home kit is also available.

The unit measures 4-3/4 inches by 3-1/8 inches by 1-1/8 inches. It features a large, easy to read graphic display that provides real-time information about title, artist, and channel. It has 30 preset channel memories, making it easy to store and jump to your favorite Sirius channels.

“This unit is so small and so easy to carry, that it quickly becomes part of your home and car life style,” says Dallas Wilson, product manager, Radio, CD, and Navigation for Blaupunkt. “We think many people will pick up extra home kits for work, dorm rooms, vacation homes, etc.”

Additional features include a song-seek that allow you to save your 10 of your favorite songs or programs, and be alerted whenever one is playing on any channel, and a search mode to locate channels, artists, program, or song titles.

The unit carries a suggested retail price of $159.95, including the car kit, and the optional home kit costs $49.95.

Dallas Wilson, product manager, Radio, CD, and Navigation for Blaupunkt spoke to CAR SOUND & PERFORMANCE about the Blaupunkt America SR04:

What is it?
It’s a small, powerful plug-and-play Sirius satellite radio receiver for your car, with an option to buy one or more home cradles so you can also listen at home, in the dorm, or even at work—if the boss allows it.

Where can I find it?
At most Blaupunkt dealers. Call 800-950-BLAU or visit the Dealer Finder at www.blaupunktusa.com.

What’s really cool about it?
It’s small and slender, so you can easily pocket it as you head out to your car or back home. With Sirius satellite radio reception you can enjoy over 120 channels of uninterrupted, static-free broadcasts from coast to coast. A song-seek mode alerts the user if one of up to 10 favorite songs or programs is on another channel.

What to tell your girlfriend(s)...
Baby, those beautiful little ears should never have to listen to static. Besides, I’ve programmed it to alert us when your favorite song is playing on anyone of the 65 commercial-free music channels.

Where can I find out more about it?
At your local Blaupunkt dealer, or at www.blaupunktusa.com.
